PRESIDENT: GREGORY WEIR
Gregory Weir is a certified and registered Vascular Surgeon. He completed his training in Medicine, General Surgery and Vascular Surgery at the University of Pretoria, where he is still involved as a part-time consultant and lecturer. He also did a Vascular, Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship in Sydney, Australia. He regards himself fortunate to have received training in Hyperbaric Medicine from Dr. Frans Cronje. Gregory has a specific interest in the role of ischaemia and hypoxia as a major etiological factor in chronic wounds.

VICE-PRESIDENT: HISKE SMART
Hiske Smart studied at the Free State University in Bloemfontein (Hons. B. Soc.Sc (Verpl), Potchefstroom University (MA Nursing Science) and at the Wound Healing Research unit in Cardiff where she received a Postgraduate diploma in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair (cum laude). She is a clinical nurse specialist in wound care and practice in Welkom (Free State province) at the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit, which is a hospital based unit at the Welkom Medi-Clinic. Her two specific interests are acute traumatic tissue injury as well as the lower limb and foot of the diabetic patient. As a committee member of WHASA she is involved in reimbursement issues and core competency training on regional level.

MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT: LIEZL NAUDE
Sr. Liezl Naude is Clinical Wound Management Specialist who heads her own Wound Care Clinic since 2001. She qualified as a Registered Nurse (B Cur) at the University of Pretoria in 1996. In 2002 she completed a Masters Degree in Community Nursing (M Cur - cum laude) at the University of Pretoria. She followed this up with an University Certificate in Wound Care at the University of the Free State in 2003 and a Certificate in Wound Care from the University of Hertfordshire UK in 2005. She is also part of a multi-disciplinary Diabetic Foot and Ulcer clinic at Montana Hospital in Pretoria. She has a passion for Wound Care and the education of peers and patients alike.

EDITOR IN CHIEF WHSA: ALAN WIDGEROW
Professor Widgerow completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He was the first Plastic Surgeon to have been awarded the Michael and Janie Miller Prize for the top surgical graduate of the University of Witwatersrand in 1989. He has held various positions in numerous academic and professional associations including that of President of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery of Southern Africa (APRSSA). He was appointed Honorary Professor by the Senate of the Wits University in 1999. He is author of over 70 plastic surgical related publications and 2 books. His current fields of interest are Cosmetic Surgery and Wound Healing. He is committed to research at Wits University and runs a private practice from Linksfield Park Clinic in Johannesburg.

MEMBER: THABO MOKHOBO
Thabo Mokhobo is a Wound Care Lecturer at the University of the Free State, School of Nursing. He completed B.Soc.Sc (Nursing) in 2003 at the University of the Free State, Assessment of Learning in Higher Education Certificate in 2008 (UFS), University Certificate in Wound Care (UFS) in 2009. Currently studying M.Soc.sc. (Nursing) in Wound care (UFS). He is currently on the education committee of WHASA and the Free State Exco member of WHASA. In 2009, Mr Mokhobo and WHASA Education Committee wrote a booklet ALL U NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WOUND CARE that was targeted to home-based carers, Assistant nurses, lay health workers, etc. He is currently involved in Wound Care Seminars and in establishing WHASA Branches in Mpumalanga & Limpopo.

CO-OPTED MEMBER (Free State): MAGDA MULDER
Prof Magda Mulder is associated with the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Free State. She is coordinator of the Post-basic Wound Care Course and a short course presented on Certificate level. Mentioned courses are the only Wound Care Courses accredited at SAQA. Two Postgraduate students, who did their clinical research in Wound Care, completed their Masters' Degree under her supervision. Prof Magda Mulder is also co-author of the study guide: "Basic Principles of Wound Care" (Publisher: Pearson Education, South Africa). Up to date Prof Mulder has presented nineteen (19) papers and five (5) workshops in Wound Care.

PAST PRESIDENT: FRANS CRONJE
Dr. Frans J Cronje is a Medical Practitioner who runs a Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Centre at Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria. He qualified MBChB at the University of Pretoria (cum laude) in 1991 and completed an academic Fellowship in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University, Durham, NC, USA in 2003. He is the pioneer of modern hyperbaric oxygen therapy in South Africa and has dedicated his professional career to the advancement of wound care - in all its forms - in Southern Africa.
