2nd International WHASA conference

7-9 May 2008

WHASA had it’s 2nd International Multi-disciplinary Wound Healing Conference at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways Gauteng. At the Conference there were 14 Exhibitors from the Wound Care Industry and about 150 delegates attending the meeting.  Out Keynote speakers were Prof Gary Sibbald from Toronto, Canada and Prof Magda Mulder from Bloemfontein, Free State. The three day meeting featured several interactive learning techniques including voting cards, panel discussions, case study sessions and hands on workshops. There were sessions delineating holistic patient assessment, a new dressing classification and discussion, infection, multi professional care, pain management, offloading, leg ulcers and many other topics. The audience demonstrated a new level of collaboration between MDs from various disciplines, podiatrists, nursing and a small number of allied health practitioners. Within the last few years the new collaborative network and the efforts of the WHASA can only improve the lives of South Africans with wounds.

The newly elected EXCO under the leadership of Liezl Naude and Gregory Weir are looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead, and would like to invite you to join us in becoming advocates for quality, scientific based Wound Management.
